The Brain

Aaron's question from the back of the car

'Mummy, why are brains squishy and why is our skull hard?'

I read yesterday that mother's field 288 questions a day from their children...no wonder we are worn out ;-)

Poor Chicks

With Easter just around the corner I thought I would share a few pondering from Aaron re Chickens:

Aaron has happily eaten chicken since he was able to but just recently we were at my mum's house and he looked at the Roast Chicken on the dinner table and asked:

'Is that a chicken that was alive once?'

When I replied yes he replied with:

'I am not going to have any thank you, poor chicken'

He hasn't eaten much chicken since that day.

He has also told me 'Chickens don't have a great life do they mummy?, they are born so we can eat them'

At his school they had some eggs which hatched into chicks while the children were watching. I commented how sweet that was and Aaron agreed with me.  Then his face changed and looking really upset said:

'But those chicks were taken from their mummy and daddy, that is so sad isn't it mummy? Poor chicks'

He seems to be developing a real awareness of the way the world works and displaying some beautiful sensitivity.

Deep and Profound

Today it would appear that Aaron (aged 4) is a deep thinker

Two questions he asked

Mummy ' What was I born for?'

and

Mummy ' When did the world begin?'

How do parents answer these questions?

It All Started When .. Is This The Best Argument Ever?

Now we all love our children, genetics and nature makes sure that we do.. one of the most joyous things is to listen to them babbling knowing that one day they will talk and when they do enjoying all the little gems that these sweet little people say :-)

Aaron is four now but as soon as he was talking I realised that his logic was something really quite special and far beyond his years.. aged 3 we had this discussion

Aaron 'Mummy, can I sleep in your bed?'
Me 'no'.
Aaron 'why?'
Me ' Because you are a big boy and big boys sleep in their own bed'
Aaron 'But daddy is a big boy and he sleeps in your bed'

Parents really do need to have their wits about them!
